We hope to share with you lots of flower related issues and interesting flower related facts . We at Glenholme Florists are really going to remember Spring 2010 for a long time to come. What an interesting start we have had to this years Spring flowers. With all the bad weather to kick start the year going on for such an unpresidented length of time, it has had a major knock on effect to Britain's most popular flower the Daffodil.
English grown Daffodils are usually available from November onwards. This year we struggled to find any at Christmas and for Mothers Day weekend ( 14th March ) we still only had the standard variety of Daffodil "Charlton" available. This is such an unusual situation with usually an abundance of different varieties readily available to, us including doubles "Duckets" and multi headed varieties such as "Cheerfulness" and "Sol et dor". In fact we were only able to source these varieties from the beginning of April. It has been known in recent years for us to really struggle sourcing a supply of the Spring favourite for Easter, having to rely on growers in Scotland to still have crops growing. With the way the weather currently is we think the trusty flower will still be with us in May!
